Funnelweb spiders are active at the moment on the slopes of Mount Cootha in Brisbane. Whilst not the feared SYDNEY FUNNELWEB, our own Queensland variety can still give a nasty bite if confronted. Interestingly, their nesting habits mean that due to their elusive lifestyles, householders living in affected suburbs such as Chapel Hill are usually unaware of their presence. Insecticide treatments such as installation of termiticide soil treatments and barriers often make them appear. They inhabit wet, cool rain forest locations and gardens, living in a tunnel in the ground. When affected by insecticides, they often come out of their nest tunnel to escape the toxic environment.
